Frequently Asked Questions
A Type N plug is a grounded electrical plug with three round pins that operates at 230V. It is the standard plug type in Brazil. Type N was specifically designed to be compatible with both Type C (Europlug) and to meet Brazilian electrical safety standards.
A Type N plug has three round pins arranged in a triangular pattern. It comes in two versions: 10A (with 4mm pins like Type C) and 20A (with 4.8mm pins). The grounding pin is positioned at the top center of the triangular arrangement.
Type N plugs are used exclusively in Brazil. Brazil adopted this standard in 2007 to replace the multiple plug types that were previously in use throughout the country. Type N was designed to provide a safer, standardized electrical system.
Type C plugs can often work in Brazilian Type N sockets, especially the 10A version which has the same 4mm pin diameter. However, for guaranteed compatibility and grounded connections, a Type N adapter is recommended when traveling to Brazil.
